BIOGRAPHY:
Dr. Syed Islam obtained a PhD with Distinction in Computer Engineering from The University of Western Australia in 2011. He had developed efficient algorithms for human recognition from 2D and 3D ear and face images and currently applying them addressing critical maritime surveillance and dental challenges. He had a total of 45 published scholarly articles that attracted 338 citations (h-index: Google-9) and five public media releases. Currently he is working in Edith Cowan and UWA School of Computer Science and Software Engineering (Adjunct) leading a number of multi-disciplinary research projects in the area of Computer Vision and Artificial Intelligence and Image Processing. He had secured nine competitive research grants. He also served as Associate Editor of 10 international journals and a regular reviewer of 20 others, Technical Committee Member of 22 conferences and member of seven professional bodies including IEEE and Australian Computer Society (senior member).
RESEARCH INTERESTS:
His research interest includes but not limited to Computer Vision, Artificial Intelligence, Pattern Recognition, 2D and 3D Image Processing, Computer Graphics, Ear and Face Biometrics, Medical Imaging, Database Systems, Telerobotics, Network Design and Network Security.
