BIOGRAPHY:
Dr. Maxwell received his PhD in Molecular Virology at the University of Texas Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences in Houston in 1986. He did post-doctoral studies in the laboratories of Drs. Gary Gallick and Janet Butel at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center and Baylor College of Medicine, respectively, from 1986-1990. Dr. Maxwell was an assistant professor in the Department of Thoracic Surgery at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center before moving to the Texas A&M Health Science Center in 1995. He currently is an associate professor in the department of Molecular & Cellular Medicine at the Texas A&M Health Science Center.
RESEARCH INTERESTS:
Dr. Maxwell’s research is in the field of cancer drug resistance. In particular, he studies mechanisms of chemoresistance in lymphoma and ovarian carcinoma. Dr. Maxwell has also participated in the development of a new class of chemosensitizer that reverses drug resistance in many different types of cancers.
