BIOGRAPHY:
Uganda with a Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine, 1982, University of Edinburgh, UK (Msc. Tropical Veterinary Medicine, 1987), The Ohio State University (Ph. Dr. Margaret Khaitsa graduated from Makerere University, Kampala D Veterinary Preventive Medicine, 1999) and University of Nebraska at Lincoln (Postdoctoral Research Associate (2000-2002). She joined North Dakota State University (NDSU) as Assistant Professor of Epidemiology in the Department of Veterinary and Microbiological Sciences in 2003 & in 2009 was promoted to Associate Professor. Her duties include teaching epidemiology courses and conducting research in infectious disease epidemiology and food safety. Dr. Khaitsa is board certified by the American College of Veterinary Preventive Medicine. She is also an active member of professional associations including Conference of Research Workers in Animal Diseases; Association for Veterinary Epidemiology and Preventive Medicine; and American Association of Veterinary Medical Colleges-AAVMC. She served as President Elect – Public Health Committee of AAVMC (July 2011-June 2012). Currently she is a member of the “One Health” Committee (newly formed committee from a merger of Public Health & International Committees) of AAVMC (since January 2013). Dr. Khaitsa has served as a member of NDSU Global Council and as a Host family for International students at NDSU. She was the 1st mentor of African Students Union (ASU) at NDSU (2009 – to date). She also served as Member of the Multicultural Student Services Faculty Advisory Committee and contributed to her Department winning The Advance FORWARD Award (2011). This is an award given annually by the Commission on the Status of Women Faculty to an academic department at NDSU with a record of outstanding effort to support and advance gender equity in one or more of the five areas/goals established in the National Science Foundation Advance Grant.
