BIOGRAPHY:
Dr. Eric Fung is currently working as a Professor at University of Nebraska Medical Center College of Dentistry, Nebraska. He has received many grant supports. He performed many peer reviews for various articles. He received many honors and awards. He has received memberships in many professional societies. He published many articles.
RESEARCH INTERESTS:
Dr. Eric Fung’s research interests include:
- Different neurotransmitter systems in the brain and their motor function
- The effects of drugs have been studied on neurotransmitter biochemistry, concentrating on the dopaminergic and GABAERGIC systems of the corpus striatum and nucleus accumbens.
- The chronic effects of nicotine treatment on intestinal absorption of several important minerals such as calcium, phosphorus, the serum levels of these minerals, the bone mineral contents, bone mineral density and the strength of bones.
Another aspect of Dr. Eric Fung’ s research determines if there is a positive correlation between blood, urine and brain tissue concentrations of mercury and the occurrence of several neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's disease and multiple sclerosis. These studies will address the important issue of whether mercury, a known neurotoxin, may be a causal agent contributing to the development of these neurodegenerative disorders.
